Swim Team Banquet this Saturday

Hello Neighbors,

Championship Swim Meet
The Washingtonian Woods Waves swim season comes to an end this Saturday at the MCSL Division K Championship Meet — also known as ‘Divisionals’.  This year the meet will be held at Lake Marion pool in Montgomery Village, and the Waves enter the Championship meet with an undefeated seasonal meet record of 5-0, as well as a 1st place finish in the Relay Carnival!

Good luck Waves!

Swim Team Banquet
5pm – 10pm (pool closes at 4pm)
Additionally, as the season concludes, the pool will also be closing early on Saturday for the annual Swim Team Banquet. The Banquet will be held at the pool from 5pm until 10pm for all members of the swim team. The pool will be closing at 4pm to accommodate setup for the banquet. There will be a DJ at the event from 6:30pm until 9:30pm, and at times the venue may be louder than usual, although we have asked that all volume levels remain respectful of similar outdoor events. The DJ will not be performing past 9:30pm.

We apologize in advance for the reduced pool hours tomorrow, and we appreciate both your support and understanding.

Thank you,
Glenn Watts

The City of Gaithersburg (through its contractor, E&R Services) will soon be performing storm culvert repair work on Upshire Circle, at the location shown on the this map (near the tennis courts.) The work starts July 5 and consists of repairs to the concrete headwalls and erosion repairs. A porta potty was recently placed near the site.

The road will remain open at all times. Work will take place during the day time, Monday through Friday. This should be a relatively short project that should be complete in a few weeks. All work will take place on City property, and all disturbed areas will be restored at project completion.

If you have any questions about the upcoming work, please feel free to contact:

This year, Washingtonian Woods is hosting one of them: The Relay Carnival. You can learn more about this event at this link.

The purpose of this email is to inform the neighborhood that due to this meet, numerous additional cars will be in the neighborhood between the hours of 7AM and 1PM, Sunday, July 10th. The swimmers and families of all 5 teams have already been informed of proper parking lot locations, and to preferably park in any legal spots along Midsummer Drive or Upshire Circle. Neighborhood Independence Day Celebration this Monday | Parade and Pool Party | Trash Can Samples

Hello Neighbors,

Just a friendly reminder that we are looking forward to seeing you for our annual 4th of July Party this Monday starting at 12 pm!

Red, White & Blue Parade (11:30 am – 12 noon)
(Decorating starts at 11:00am; Parade starts at 11:30am)
We’ll be marching as a group from the Tot Lot at Driscoll and Upshire all the way down to the pool. Feel free to decorate your bikes and scooters beforehand, or meet at the park at 11:00am to decorate onsite (we will have some decorations on hand.) The parade starts promptly at 11:30am. If you can’t march in the parade, feel free to come out and grab a spot along the parade route to enjoy the parade and show your support.

BBQ and Pool Party (12:00 pm – 5:00 pm)
** The pool party and BBQ is a private event, exclusively for members of the neighborhood, as well as outside members of the pool.

Guest Policy
The Social Committee has received a few questions asking about the party on Monday and the guest policy — and wanted to send out a quick message to clarify for all:  If you have a family member/friend visiting for the holiday, they are able to join you at the pool during operating hours 11 AM to 9 PM. As seating space is limited, we do suggest you consider bringing chairs or blankets on the day. As the event has food and drink paid for by the HOA as well as games which have prizes eligible, Guests will NOT be able to partake in those paid activities. There is no option to pay for a guest to have food. You are more than welcome to bring your own food and drink on the day (no glass please).

Each registered pool member will be given wristbands and food tickets based on your membership status within the pool computer, which uses your application that you submitted prior to the start of the 2022 swim season. We are using a very old computer program to check members in, so please bear with us. You can come as early as 11am to check in, obtain wristbands for your family and find a seat.

Schedule of Events
– The Parade will start at 11:30 am from the Tot Lot on Driscoll.
– BBQ Food will be 12pm – 1:30pm
– Carmen’s and Desserts 3:00pm – 4:00pm
– Games throughout the event

Volunteers
Finally, we can’t make all of this happen without volunteers! There are many ways to help and we still have many slots that need to be filled. Please take a moment to look at the available slots and sign up today!

Change to Neighborhood Trash Service |  Trash Can Samples
The Board does not have any updates with regards to timing around the implementation of our trash service to one day a week. We do not yet know when the change will be implemented, nor do we know our scheduled day-of-week for service. However, we will certainly keep everyone informed as we learn more, and with the intent of giving everyone as much time as possible to prepare.

In the meantime, the Board has procured two trash can samples for neighbors to check out in-person. The samples are currently placed at the Clubhouse Entrance to the pool, for your review, and will be there for the next week or so. We have one 64-gallon sample, and one 96-gallon sample. Please note that while both sample cans have pink tops, our actual cans will not — please just review the samples for size comparison and for usability.

We do not yet know which of the two sizes will be the “standard” option; however, all residents should have the choice between the two. For example, if the 64-gallon can becomes the standard, then residents will still have the option to choose the 96-gallon can — and vice-versa.

We hope everyone is staying safe and well.

Thank you,
Glenn Watts
Board of Directors, Washingtonian Woods HOA

Spring Inspections

Hello Neighbors,

Annual Spring Property Inspections
Annual compliance reviews are scheduled to begin in the next week or so for all owners of single family homes in Washingtonian Woods. These inspections are to verify that every property is in full compliance with the Association’s governing documents, and the reviews are conducted during this time of year in order to give everyone an opportunity to make necessary corrections and repairs during the best possible weather conditions. Please note the Annual Compliance Review is in addition to regular drive through visits. The reviews are done from the streets and common areas, and may include photos. Please be aware, no one will be coming onto your property.

Below is a partial check-list for your reference:
• All roof shingles and exterior siding are in place
• All exterior brick, stone, and siding is clean and free of stains
• All exterior trim, features, and cornice are in place and in good shape
• Exterior lighting is functioning and in good shape
• Garage doors are in good shape
• All shutters are in place, the same color and not faded
• Mailboxes are straight and have the address present
• Mulch beds are free of weeds
• Plant material and trees (including branches), are in good shape
• Fence, if applicable, is in good shape
• Deck, if applicable, is in good shape
• Outdoor play equipment that is not put away when not in use
• Bulk/loose items on the property that are not kept out of public view
• Trash cans/recycle bins not stored out of public view except on collection days

Please note that with regards to outdoor play equipment remaining perpetually in front yards, the Board has been intentionally lenient over the past two years with enforcement, due to the Covid-19 pandemic and desire to be flexible. However, at this time the Board will once again be requesting that homeowners start putting playing equipment away when not in use, and not leave in front yards overnight. Please kindly begin to re-adopt this approach over the coming weeks.

PMP will be conducting the property inspections. If you have a compliance issue, you will first receive an email notice, followed by a hard copy of the notice to your home as well. If you have any questions, please wait for the hard copy of the compliance letter and then contact Tim Mulford at PMP (301-963-3337 or [email protected]), to discuss further or to request an extension.

Your efforts in keeping Washingtonian Woods an attractive and appealing community in which to live are very much appreciated.

We hope everyone is staying safe and well.

Thank you,
Glenn Watts
Board of Directors, Washingtonian Woods HOA

Election Results | Pool Mailing | Change to Trash Service

Hello Neighbors,

Election Results
At the rescheduled annual meeting, which occurred on February 22, 2022, the following residents were elected to the Board:

Kathleen McCann
Stephanie Benz

Thank you to all residents who offered to volunteer their time by running for a position on the Board.

2022 Pool Mailing, Swim Team Calendar, Tentative Social Event Calendar
Please keep an eye out for the annual pool mailing. Included will be pool hours, rules & regulations, pool pass application, swim team calendar, and tentative Neighborhood Social Events calendar. They should be arriving in your (snail) mailboxes within the next few days.

Change to Neighborhood Trash Collection Service
The Board would like to take this opportunity to inform all residents of the Washingtonian Woods single family homes, of a notable upcoming change to our neighborhood trash collection service. Later on this spring, our service will be reduced to a single pickup per week (day of week still to be determined), and all residents will be provided with an 96-gallon toter trash can that will be required for pickup.

This change is related to several things: steady annual increase in service cost, and the waste collection industry adopting the use of trash trucks with automated lifts.

The Board did not take this change lightly, and explored all viable alternative options. However, this paradigm is quickly becoming the norm for the industry, and options to keep two pickups per week were no longer economically feasible. It is the Board’s hope that the larger provided trash can will help offset the reduced frequency of pickup. Residents wishing to have additional toters may make that request directly with the contractor, and they will be provided for an additional fee.

As more specific details become available around timing and implementation of the change, we will be sure to provide updates. In the meantime, any residents wishing to discuss this change, or any other matters, are welcome to attend our next Board meeting, date and time listed below.

Next Board Meeting – March 22, 2022, 7pm
